County promotes home ownership with workshop

The Gadsden County Housing Program will hold a 5-Steps to Own Your Next Home Workshop for Gadsden County residents on Saturday, June 22. The workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners meeting chamber.

The 5-Steps to Own Your Next Home Workshop is a part of the nationwide celebration of National Homeownership Month, observed from June 1 through June 30.
This national spotlight on homeownership began as a weeklong recognition in 1995 and was first proclaimed to last the entire month of June in 2002 under former President George W. Bush.

Under the leadership of Sonya Burns, the Gadsden County Housing program diligently works with trusted partners to produce and preserve affordable homeownership and multifamily housing for low-income and moderate-income families.

“This invaluable workshop, offered free of charge, will equip potential homebuyers in Gadsden County with the knowledge of five essential steps to own a home,” Burns said. “As the head of the Gadsden County Housing Program, my utmost priority is to enlighten the community about the accessible housing opportunities in Gadsden County. I am thrilled to collaborate with our community partners, who have graciously agreed to provide information for those interested in purchasing a home.”

Attendees will have an opportunity to:

  • Learn about home buying, estimated down payments, and closing cost assistance programs.
  • Discuss loan options and financial education with lenders.
  • Participate in a Tour of Homes. (Transportation will be provided.)
  • Earn homebuyer Education Credit hours.
  • Meet with lenders, realtors, and builders.
  • Learn about financial literacy, fair housing, and credit counseling.
