Gadsden County man found guilty on attempted murder charge

According to the office of State Attorney Jack Campbell, Willie Anthony, Jr., of Quincy, has been found guilty of attempted first degree murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Anthony’s trial was held on January 13.

According to the court documents, Anthony’s trial was the result of an arrest that took place in August 2021.

The documents state that the case originated after a verbal altercation took place between Anthony and his girlfriend in a home the two shared.

During the altercation, Anthony is reported to have shot his girlfriend in the face before fleeing on foot from the residence; after several days of searching, law enforcement officers arrested Anthony and brought him to the department for questioning.

The victim survived the assault, although court documents state that she suffered “serious injuries” as a result of the attack.

During questioning, Anthony admitted to the shooting.

On Thursday, January 13, Anthony’s trial in the Second Judicial Circuit of Florida began.

The state listed as evidence photos from the scene, casings found at the scene of the crime, a bullet that was in a wall, photos of the victim in the hospital, Anthony’s waiver of rights form, Anthony’s interview with law enforcement investigators, and a box of ammunition.

The trial lasted one day, concluding on January 14.

The jury for Anthony’s trial found him guilty of attempted first degree murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

While Anthony’s sentencing date will be held on February 1, the court documents state that Anthony is eligible for anywhere between 10 years of imprisonment to life in prison.
