Gadsden Senior Services partners with The Salvation Army to distribute food to seniors

Gadsden County Senior Services is partnering with The Salvation Army of Tallahassee to distribute food to senior citizens.
More than 40 seniors were served during their first distribution held on Tuesday, July 2.
The Salvation Army of Tallahassee’s Lt. Omar Lugo said the initiative was started to fill the gap and address food insecurity among seniors in our community, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals and support.
“It came about through a collaboration between The Salvation Army of Tallahassee and the Gadsden County Senior Center, recognizing the growing need to support our senior citizens, especially those facing food insecurity,” Lugo said.
He said the initiative will provide much-needed relief to seniors, helping to improve their quality of life, reduce hunger, and foster a sense of community support and care.

The organizations distributed emergency food bags containing a variety of non-perishable food items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, and other essentials to ensure balanced meals.
“Seniors should know that they matter, and we are here to support them not only with food but also with other resources and services,” Lugo said. “They can reach out to us for more information on additional programs available to them.”

The Gadsden County Senior Citizens Center is located at 79 Lasalle Leffall Drive in Quincy.
The first distribution will be held on the first Tuesday of each month.

To receive food through the initiative, seniors must be a resident of Gadsden County.

“Together, we can make a significant difference in their lives,” Lugo said.

Monetary donations can be made at The Salvation Army of Tallahassee, located at 2410 Allen Road, Tallahassee, FL 32312. Non-perishable food donations can be made at The Salvation Army of Tallahassee or at the Gadsden County Senior Citizen Center.
