Local baseball season is well underway

Gadsden County

Gadsden County High School defeated FAMU 16-5 last Tuesday and Jefferson County 12-8 last Thursday to pick up its first two baseball wins this season.

Carlos Barrios got the Tuesday win, pitching the first three innings of the mercy-rule game and fanning four.

Marcus King hurled the last two innings for the Jaguars.

Tireck Starks, Jaelin Williams and Jakob Mullins had two hits apiece in the game for Gadsden.

Williams and Mullins drove in three runs apiece with their hits and Starks wound up scoring four times.

Starks’ hits were both for extra bases as he lashed a double and a triple.

Ronnie Smith got credit for the Jefferson County win by pitching five innings of shutout relief.

Smith struck out ten in his stint and also had a good plate day, poking two hits and driving in a pair of runs.

Starks and Williams also banged two hits apiece and both scored twice.

Williams also drove in two with his hits.

The Jaguars lost Friday, 12-3, in a home game against Poplar Springs.

Sammy Carter had two hits in the game for the Jaguars.

Munroe

In other county play, Munroe got bumped three times last week: losing 10-0 last Tuesday against Wakulla Christian, 10-0 at Pensacola Washington Friday, and 18-1 at Escambia Saturday.

Tallavana Christian

Tallavana also lost its only game last week, getting whacked 22-0 at Wakulla Christian last Thursday.

This Week’s Schedule

This week’s schedule had Gadsden County playing at Marianna Tuesday and the team will play at Munroe Friday, March 9.

Munroe had a Tuesday game at Florida High and will play at Saint John Paul II today (Thursday, March 8) before hosting Gadsden tomorrow.

Tallavana will host Aucilla Christian today (March 8).
