Motion to help county’s Medicaid/Medicare recipients fails

At last Tuesday’s County Commission meeting, County Commissioner Eric Hinson (District 1) made a motion to put a county hiring freeze on until this year’s budgeting process was further along so the commissioners could plan how best to address the state planning to give about $980,000 less next fiscal year to Gadsden County residents for Medicaid and Medicare benefits.

Hinson said he was not against the county hiring new people and growing, but he wanted to make sure the county’s Medicaid and Medicare recipients were taken care of first.

Hinson’s motion died on the floor for lack of a second by the county’s other four commissioners.
