Nick Bert announces candidacy for Havana Town Council

Nick Bert recently announced his candidacy for the Havana Town Council Group 4 seat.

Bert, who retired last year after publishing the Havana Herald for 44 years, was born and raised in Havana where he attended Havana High School and then the University of Florida.

Bert believes local government’s basic responsibilities are public safety, health and welfare; infrastructure improvement and maintenance; and economic development. He is a proponent of re, a clean environment and good community relations.

Bert served in the Florida National Guard and has been a member of many community boards. He currently is involved with the Havana History & Heritage Society, Havana Main Street and the Havana Kiwanis Club.

He is an elder in Havana First Presbyterian Church and has a son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren who live in Quincy.

“I love Havana and feel an obligation to serve on the town council,” Bert said. “Havana is a great community with a lot of potential, and this council has an important responsibility to lead it into the future.”
