School non-instructional staff negotiate 3 percent pay raise

The Gadsden County School Board and the Gadsden Educational Staff Professional Association, the union for all non-instructional staff working in the school district, recently agreed to a new two-year contract for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years.

The new contract includes an across-the-board 3 percent pay raise, as well as a $500 bonus for each non-instructional employee.

Gadsden County School Board Chair Steve Scott said the negotiations took very little time and were non-contentious.

Regina Munroe, president of the educational staff association and a paraprofessional at James A. Shanks Middle School in Quincy, concurred, noting “these were the easiest negotiations” in her more than 10 years on the association’s bargaining team.

Munroe said Milton and his team “really made the non-instructional staff feel they were valued and appreciated throughout the entire process.”

Milton put together a team to negotiate with the educational staff association on behalf of the school board. The board then approved the deal as negotiated.
