Tallahassee Community College Foundation announces four new scholarships

The Tallahassee Community College Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of four new scholarships – The Sharon Jefferson Endowed Scholarship, The GFWC Woman’s Club of Tallahassee Returning Women Scholarship, Scott and Tazumi Scearce Exceptional Student Education Scholarship in Memory of Denise Keller, and the Scott and Tazumi Scearce Cyber Security Scholarship.

The Sharon Jefferson Endowed Scholarship was established by Dana Brooks to honor Sharon Jefferson’s legacy at Tallahassee Community College. Sharon retired as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Tallahassee Community College after 31 years of service to the institution. During her time at the College, she impacted countless students, including Dana Brooks, who created this scholarship to honor Sharon for her profound impact.

“When I graduated law school and called Sharon, I told her I finished my A.A., then I got my bachelor’s in social work, then I got a master’s in social work, then I went to law school. On the same day, I became a lawyer, I was made a name partner. So I did something with this gift you gave me, and I really appreciate it,” said Dana Brooks. “This scholarship is for her and anyone who ever thinks their education is not attainable.”

The GFWC Woman’s Club of Tallahassee Returning Women Scholarship was established by the GFWC Woman’s Club of Tallahassee, an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. It assists women returning to college who wish to start a new career or expand their current one. This is the third scholarship the Woman’s Club has created at Tallahassee Community College.

“The establishment of the endowed scholarship is part of a long list to encourage education and continue the education of students in our community,” said Donna Peacock, President of the GFWC Woman’s Club of Tallahassee.

The Scott and Tazumi Scearce Exceptional Student Education Scholarship in Memory of Denise Keller was created to honor their family friend Denise’s work in special education. This scholarship was designed for students working towards their bachelor’s degree in Exceptional Student Education at Tallahassee Community College. Through this program, they will learn to educate children with a broad variety of special needs.

The Scott and Tazumi Scearce Cyber Security Scholarship was established to aid students in their journey of growth and self-improvement as they pursue an education in cybersecurity. As cybersecurity becomes increasingly more important, this scholarship will ensure that interested students are able to pursue this educational path.

“We are funding these scholarships to create an opportunity,” said Scott Scearce. “Although we have donated the money to do this, we feel nothing is being given away here. This aid is 100% earned through the maturity and effort of the student.”
