According to Florida Highway Patrol, the following occurred:

On March 21, 2024, around 5:30 a.m., a 79-year-old Quincy man driving a pickup truck in the wrong lane, was travelling west in the eastbound inside lane of US 90 near Commerce Boulevard in Midway.

A box truck was traveling east in the eastbound outside lane and a garbage truck was traveling east in the eastbound inside lane.

The 79-year-old man swerved to his left in an attempt to avoid colliding with the garbage truck. As a result, the left-front of the pickup collided with the left side of the box truck in the eastbound outside lane.

Upon collision, both vehicles rotated counterclockwise. The right-front of the garbage truck then collided with the right-rear corner of the pickup truck in the eastbound inside lane. After the second collision, the pickup truck came to final rest in the eastbound outside lane facing west. The box truck came to final rest on the south grass shoulder facing north, and the garbage truck came to a stop in the eastbound inside lane facing east. The Quincy man was died on the scene.

The driver on the box truck was transported to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The driver of the garbage truck was uninjured.

The Florida High Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Midway Police Department, the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, Midway Fire and Rescue, Gadsden County Volunteer Workers, and the Florida Department of Transportation.
