2 men found guilty of 2022 murder in Havana

According to a news release from State Attorney Jack Campbell’s office, on April 13, 2022, Ilik Gaines and Reshard McBride shot and killed 22-year-old Raymond Jackson as he sat in the driver’s seat of his vehicle at 215 Salters St, Havana.

Gaines was sitting in the front passenger seat and his co-defendant McBride was sitting in the rear passenger seat. The residence at 215 Salters St. captured the incident on a home security video. Both defendants fired multiple shots at the victim. Jackson was ultimately shot 14 times. The defendants then removed a backpack believed to be full of money and marijuana from the vehicle, dropping some of the money in their haste to escape the scene. The video also showed where the ungloved and unmasked defendants touched the vehicle and window of the victim’s vehicle. The Havana Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated the case. FDLE was able to develop latent lifts on the vehicle for comparison while processing the vehicle. The prints were identified with Reshard McBride and Ilik Gaines in the places where the defendants can be seen touching the vehicle. Additionally, Reshard McBride’s DNA was found in the rear passenger side interior door handle where he’s shown in the video. Both defendants were also positively identified in the video by people who knew them. The case was tried by Assistant State Attorney James Beville and Assistant State Attorney Sara Hassler on March 27-28. The jury heard testimony for a day and a half, and deliberated for just more than an hour before returning a guilty verdict on both defendants. Both defendants are scheduled to be sentenced on May 2, 2024 at 2 p.m.
