Florida teams Oklahoma City-bound

Both teams had to jump hoops but the Florida State and Florida softball teams earned spots in the College World Series after giving their fans some jitters last week.

Both won best-of-three Super Region events despite struggles.

The Seminoles edged LSU in the Tallahassee Regional despite losing the opening game 6-5 Friday.

They managed to bounce back and get by the Tigers 8-5 in an 11 inning Saturday game before using a complete game pitching performance by Kylee Hanson to win a second Saturday game.

The Lady Gators win was even more nerve racking.

Florida won their opener 5-4 Thursday on a walk off, walk after trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh. A pair of errors by the visiting Texas A&M team helped out in the Gators come from behind win.

The Aggies refused to go away and forced a third game with a 5-4 win Friday.

Texas A&M was then set to capture the region as they led 3-2 in the Gators last at bat Saturday.

A two-out, three-run homer by Jordan Matthews got Florida a 5-3 win and another trip to Oklahoma City.

Both FSU and the Gators play first round games Thursday on ESPN2.

Florida will meet Georgia at 7pm and the Seminoles meet UCLA at 9pm.

The two state teams are in the same bracket, so there is a good chance they will have to play each other to advance in the bracket or avoid elimination somewhere along the line.

The tournament is set up to have top bracket and bottom bracket winners meet in a two-of-three series that will begin Monday on ESPN.
