Gadsden County has highest June unemployment rate out of Capital Region

According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the combined regional unemployment rate for the counties of Leon, Wakulla, and Gadsden was lower in June 2022 than it was in June 2021.

The 2022 unemployment rate for June was 3.1 percent, while the rate in June 2021 was 4.8 percent.

Out of the three counties, Wakulla County had the lower unemployment rate in the Capital Region, at 2.5 percent, while Gadsden County had the highest rate at 3.6 percent.

Leon County sat in the middle, at 3.1 percent.

According to Career Source Capital Region, the agency had 6,012 individuals who were unemployed and looking for jobs in June.

The top six most-advertised occupations in June 2022 were for registered nurses, software developers, managers (all sorts), sales representatives (for wholesale and manufacturing), retail salespersons, and first-line supervisors in retail stores.

In order to help job-seekers find employment, CareerSource Capital Region will host a recruitment event on behalf of St. Marks Powder at the Wakulla Career Center, on Wednesday, August 2.

This will be a hiring event open to the general public.

The recruitment event will be for various operational positions.

The event will last from 9 a.m until noon, and will be held at 3278 Crawfordville Highway, Suite G, in Crawfordville.

The St. Marks Powder is a manufacturing plant in Crawfordville.

The plant is expecting to pay new employees $15 an hour, with the opportunity to progress quickly to $18 an hour within the first year of employment; the plant offers benefits packages with full time positions.

“We are pleased to host a recruitment event for St. Marks Powder,” said Keith Gerena, Local Veteran Employment Representative at CareerSource Capital Region. “Local residents will get face time with the employer and have a conversation rather than just apply on a website. This is the chance to get to know the company in-person and make connections that change the trajectory of your career.”

Individuals interested in interviewing with St. Marks Powder at this recruitment event should email mctl.sector@careersourcecapitalregion.com or call (850) 617-4585 for an appointment, although job-seekers are also welcome to show up on the day of the recruitment event as well.
