Gadsden County High senior excels in academics and weightlifting

Johnny Dixon, a senior at Gadsden County High School, boasting a 3.8 GPA, is making waves both academically and athletically. Having completed two years of JROTC, Dixon was faced with the opportunity to serve as an American soldier, which he considers a great honor. However, his passion for weightlifting has always been undeniable.

Since middle school, Dixon has been deeply involved in weight training. Fortunately, in 2023, the Gadsden County weightlifting team was established, providing an avenue for Dixon to pursue his passion.

In the 2024 District meet, he secured an impressive first place in Olympic and second place in Traditional categories. Advancing to regionals, where he clinched third place in Olympic, setting his sights on the State Championship on April 20.. Dixon expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering support of the team and the community and his weightlifting Coach Alesha Dunlap.

“Johnny Dixon epitomizes the spirit of dedication and growth,” Coach Dunlap said. “He’s not just a student; he’s a passionate individual with an insatiable thirst for improvement. While some may perceive him as quiet, I Dunlap said Dixon is a model student.

“His academic prowess is not just about meeting expectations; it’s about embracing challenges and pushing boundaries,” Dunlap added. “ As a coach for the boys’ weightlifting team, I’m privileged to witness Johnny’s coachability and positive attitude firsthand. His success, alongside the team’s, is a testament to their unwavering commitment to the process.”

Dunlap said Dixon represents the best of what Gadsden County High stands for: hard work, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
