Gadsden County Parks Board has initial meeting

The Gadsden County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board had its first meeting on Tuesday, April 17.

The board was put together by the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners over a year ago, but until now did not have a quorum to hold an official meeting.

Present at the first meeting were Mark Rivers Sr., Harold Bailey, Mary Jack Boone, Herb Chancey, Clyde Collins and Gay Steffen.

Absent was Leroy Smith.

The board declared its purpose and mission is to advise the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners and the Gadsden County Parks and Recreation Department on issues presented to the board related to the study and planning for the operation of the parks and recreation program — and the creation and operation of county parks, playgrounds and recreation areas..

Gay Steffen was elected chair of the board and Harold Bailey was elected vice chair.

Rivers invited the public to come to the board’s future open meetings to bring ideas for what is needed in terms of parks and recreation in Gadsden County.

The board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners meeting room (9B East Jefferson Street in Quincy).
