The Havana Town Council approved a Comprehensive Plan Amendment to make changes to Havana’s historic downtown district under a master plan developed by Havana Main Street.
Havana Main Street solicited community input to create a Downtown Master Plan to make numerous changes categorized into four themes:
• Historic downtown design
• Downtown beautification
• Economic and business development
• Promotion and preservation
Some of the key changes include:
• New downtown design standards preserving historic buildings and structures
• Identifying derelict buildings and setting minimum maintenance requirements for buildings, properties and landscaping
Following possible changes to the amendment by other state agencies, the Havana Town Council will next vote on the ordinance on a second reading in about four to six weeks.
