Havana woman found dead from gunshot wound

A young Havana woman was found dead in a car outside her residence early last Thursday morning, killed by a gunshot wound, a Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office investigator said.

Authorities reported around 1:15 a.m. Thursday, July 19, a young boy called 911 to report finding his mother, 37-year-old Melissa Hinson, dead in her car, which was parked outside their residence at the 9100 block of U.S. Highway 27 North.

An autopsy Friday concluded Hinson died from a gunshot wound, Sgt. Anglie Highwtower, sheriff’s office investigator and public information officer, said.  As of press time TuesdayInvestigators have not yet released whether the shooting represents an intentional homicide, was accidental, or if it was self-inflicted.

Hinson was a mother of three young boys and  shared her home, just north of the Havana town limits, with her mother and sons.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, Sgt. Hightower said. The sheriff’s office will release additional information upon its conclusion.
