Local black Greek organizations partner for back-to-school giveaway

The Tau Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in partnership with the Pi Psi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated hosted their Annual Phirst Pham Back to School Giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 5.

The event was held on Saturday, Aug. 5 at Chattahoochee Elementary School and served more than 250 families.

Octavius Jackson, the president of Alpha Phi Alpha’s Pi Psi Lambda said the mission is to provide support and services while enhancing the education advancement in addition to health and wellness throughout the community. 

The community outreach project provided backpacks filled with school supplies, health screenings, COVID home test kits, and even student physicals.

Community partners that supported the event includes the Gadsden County Health Department, MLK Foundation, The Florida Lottery, Department of Health Gadsden County, The Gadsden County Public Library, The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Department, Pretty Elite, Big Bend Chamber of Commerce, Florida State University College of Medicine and Internal Medicine Resident Program, Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Chattahoochee Elementary Administrators and Staff, Piggly Wiggly, Subway, Krispy Kreme, PepsiCo, Chicken Salad Chick, SNAP Benefits, Second Harvest, Florida State University Head Start, National Hookup of Black Women, Foundation 4 Life Jessie Furlow Medical Center, Chattahoochee Fire Department and all volunteers.
