Gadsden County Jail honors female inmates and their mothers on Mother’s Day

For the fourth straight year, the Gadsden County Jail honored female inmates and their mothers this past Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13.

Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young and Bureau Chief Major Robert Barkley initiated the program as part of the Inmate Advocate and Volunteer Program organized by local Christian counselors.

Jail officials say the program seeks to make Mother’s Day special for female inmates and their moms, instead of having them go through just another day behind bars, separated from family and struggling with feelings of isolation and guilt.
