Munroe faces Liberty County in Spring Classic

New Munroe High School football coach Joseph Gaddy will take his team to Greensboro tonight (April 17) to face Liberty County in the annual Spring Classic match-up.

The game begins at 7 p.m. on the West Gadsden High School field. Gaddy, who took the Bobcats’ helm this spring, has a 23-man roster, including 16 lettermen. Xavier Gray and Nathan Bot are vying for the Bobcat quarterback position, and both will see action tonight in the game against Liberty County.

Gaddy said he hopes his team’s energy will yield success in the coming season. “We’re of course in a situation where our kids are used to ironman football,” the new coach said. “So we have to be tough and versatile with a lot of energy.”

The Spring Classic won’t be the first on-field test for Munroe. Last week, the Bobcats played a Red-Gray inter-squad scrimmage in front of the student body. “It was fun, and our students showed some excitement,” Gaddy said. “The team really enjoyed it.”

Still, Gaddy said tonight’s game will be crucial for gauging his team’s progress. “Liberty County has a great football tradition and playing them will help us see how we’re coming along,” he said.
