Qualifying period for public office candidacy is next week

If you plan to run for public office this year, be sure to submit the required paperwork within the upcoming qualifying period.

The qualifying period for all statewide, multi-county, county and district candidates (excluding judicial, state attorney and public defender candidates) begins 12 p.m., Monday, June 18 and ends at 12 p.m. the following Friday, June 22.

Qualifying papers may be submitted up to 14 days prior to the beginning of the qualifying period.

Any qualifying papers submitted early will be processed when the qualifying period begins.

“I encourage candidates to file qualifying papers as early as possible and within the permissible window,” Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner said. “Information about qualifying is available on the Division of Elections’ website and the Division’s staff is here to help.”

The Division of Elections website will be updated as qualifying paperwork is received throughout the week of qualifying
