Rickards gets “Soul Bowl” win

There’s no doubt who was the star of this year’s Tallahassee Rickards-Gadsden County High football Soul Bowl.

The Raiders’ Kevin Dean put on quite a show, running for 265 yards and scoring six touchdowns in Rickards 55-32 win at Gene Cox Stadium last Thursday.

It wasn’t that the visiting Jaguars couldn’t score. It was that they couldn’t do anything with Dean.

Gadsden’s main answer was Koleion Rich, who had three touchdowns of his own. Two of those came on rushes and the third on an exciting 86-yard punt return.

Also scoring was Antwan Betsy on a 70-yard interception return, and Burl James on a 24-yard pass reception from Da’Nilo McCloud. McCloud wrapped up the Jaguar scoring with a two-point conversion run.

Kelvionta Hinson also had a Gadsden High interception, but little else stopped Dean or Rickards.

“We’re just having trouble stopping people, and a lot of it has to do with youth,” Jaguar coach Joe Striplin said. “We can move the ball, though we at times stop ourselves, we just need to get better at stopping the other team.”

Gadsden fell to 0-3 with the loss. They will play at Wakulla Friday night.

Gadsden County High School Player of the Week: Koleion Rich
Koleion Rich scored two rushing touchdowns in an 80-yard running night and added a touchdown on an 86-yard punt return run in Gadsden High’s 55-32 loss to Rickards Thursday night. For his effort Rich garnered Jaguar Player-of-the-Week honors.
