Why is Quincy’s permitting cost so high?

At Quincy’s April 23  meeting, local businessmen Bruce Shelfer and George Hackney questioned Quincy’s permit costs for building commercial warehousing.

Total permit fees for a 12,000-square-foot commercial building in Quincy is approximately $22,238.00, said Shelfer and Hackney.

The men compared the cost with Tallahassee for the same-sized building, in which Tallahassee’s commercial permitting cost is only $7,392.00.

Comparing with Havana, Chattahoochee, Greensboro and Gadsden County, they all came in at $3,700.

The city decided to hold a workshop to address its permitting costs at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22.
