On Friday and Saturday, Gadsden County hosted the two-day Crappie Masters Team professional fishing tournament for crappie saltwater fish at Lake Talquin in Quincy.
It was the second straight year Gadsden County has hosted this prestigious tournament. Bass Pro Shops was the primary sponsor.
It is estimated that the 40 or so teams that entered the tournament from all over the United States pumped approximately $600,000 into the local economy from the week they spent here — preparing for, then participating in the tournament.
Brenda Holt, chair of the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners and a member of the Gadsden County Tourist Development Council, hoped to make this an annual event at Lake Talquin.
“This is a good event for our county,” Holt said. “We want to use our success with this one to bring in other fishing and outdoors tournaments.”
Brian Sowers, emcee and spokesman for Crappie Masters, said it was likely the tour would come back to Gadsden County as the event was well received.
