Every year, the North Florida Fair in Tallahassee brings fair rides and carnival food to the Big Bend area.
The fair also brings an opportunity for local youth to participate in agricultural and livestock shows, win awards, and compete.
This year, Gadsden County 4-H had 17 youth participants in the Agricultural Judging Contest and Beef Show; the local youth competed against over 70 other young competitors from Taylor, Madison, Jefferson, Washington, Suwannee, Liberty, and Gulf Counties.
Placing first place as a senior team, the Gadsden County quartet was Jonathan Timmons, Ty’Vontae Starks, Carolina Harrell, and Roger Nemeth.
Harrell also placed first in the Individual Senior Class and represented Gadsden County in the North Florida Beef Show, where she showed her steer, Sunny, and the two brought home a third place showmanship award. Sunny also won first place in his steer class, and Harrell won the first place Senior Herdsmen Award.
Starks won the third place Individual Senior Class award.
The first place intermediate team was won by Gadsden County quartet Jack Nemeth, Joey Brakey, Charles Brakey, and Ja’Kylon Caridy.
Claridy also won the second place Intermediate Class award.
Placing third in the Individual Junior awards was Gadsden County’s Bryleigh Houston.
