Hundreds of children and their family members filled the Old Havana Northside High School Cafeteria on Sunday for the 12th annual Back to School Community Resource Fair.
The event was hosted by One Gadsden Foundation, Inc. in partnership with the MLK Foundation of Florida, and the Havana Development Corporation, and Gadsden County Commissioner Eric Hinson.
School supplies, toiletries, food, gift cards and more were given away at the event.
Mother Care Network was also there providing health screenings for high blood pressure and diabetes to adults.
Several other organizations, including Florida A&M University, Tallahassee Community College, Big Bend Transit, Big Bend Area Health Education Center and Grandparents as Parents, were also there offering information about their services.
“It is important to us to provide resources to our local community to improve their quality of life and to bring those resources to them for immediate use,” Hinson said. “We hope this event provided families with what they needed to jumpstart a successful school year with a focus on the whole being.
Hinson said more than 700 families were served during the event.
