More home-grown pro athletes named for Ebony and Ivory honors

On Friday, June 1 an Ebony & Ivory Affair event will be held at the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy Conference Center to honor Gadsden County’s professional athletes.

This event has been brought to my attention and I am honored to have been invited – not as an athlete of course, but as a presenter and one of the honored guests. There will be more information on this in next week’s Herald.

There is no way the event could cover all the professional athletes from Gadsden County, as the event organizers are aware of. In my mind, and with some help, I have tried to come up with a list of athletes from the county that have played professional sports. I know we have missed some.

With this article I hope that any other names from the county will crop up with help from our readers. We’re not necessarily looking for athletes that have made the county their home.

Right now we’re looking for athletes that were raised in the county and went through our school system. This is a list I’ve come up with to date.

BASEBALL: Roger Bailey, Joey Bauldree, Andrew Fryson, Mike Gordon, Jeremy Morris, Alvin Rittman, Arness Rittman, Jamie Shouppe, Cedric Thomas.

BASKETBALL: Monte Cummings, Ricky Davis, Cheryia Davis, Charles Hightower, Billy Ray Hobley, Allen Hudgins, Rosa Hugdins, Al Lawson, Andrew Moten, Johnny Walker. BOXING Shinny Burns.

FOOTBALL: Woody Campbell, Curtis Green, Mack Lee Hill, Abdul Howard, Alex Jackson, Dexter Jackson, Willie Simmons, Leroy Smith, Ricky Smith, Rodell Thomas, Rudy Thomas.

GOLF: Ben Bates, Ben Duncan.

Anyone who knows anybody we missed, please email us at mail@prioritynews.net and leave a phone number or email address where you may be reached. It will be appreciated.
